Do what you love or try something new!
All session long, campers get to pick from a wide range of age-specific athletic, recreational, and creative activities. See all the options below!
All of our activities seek to strike a balance between skill development and personal enjoyment, and constant effort is made to meet the needs and wants of the campers. Each camp session has its own daily schedule that allows for our campers to have a unique programmatic experience that is designed exclusively for their age group. While we host hundreds of campers at any point during summer, we provide each one with a meaningful and memorable experience personally catered to their needs.
During every activity – from playing at the pool, to meals, to going to sleep at night – staff are always on hand to supervise, help and support our campers.

More On Our Activities
Our robust sports programs give campers a great sports experience along with the rest of Camp’s magic. Along with offering special sports tracks that will give campers the opportunity to hone their skills on specific sports, we also offer campers the chance to play Ultimate Frisbee, Beach Volleyball, Krav maga, lacrosse, self-defense, tennis, softball, baseball, gymnastics, martial arts, yoga, basketball, archery, street hockey, yoga, and more.
Swim time isn’t just about swimming, doing laps and splashing around. The Olympic size pool also features basketball hoops, water polo, floating inner tubes, diving boards, and a log roll (yeah, you heard that right). And once a week, for all of you American Ninja Warrior fans, we’ll have a floating giant obstacle course! All campers are given a swim test to ensure the safety of all campers and four lifeguards are always on duty.
All of our activities and programs incorporate the great outdoors and our beautiful “by the bay” surroundings at Cal Maritime and 500 acres at our Porter Creek home.
URJ Camp Newman operates on the campus of Cal Maritime. Nestled along the shores of the sparkling Carquinez Straits of the San Francisco Bay, Cal Maritime is the ideal setting for a summer camp – with superb facilities, grounds, and views. The outdoor programming spaces, as well as their athletic spaces and fields are the ideal setting for lots of outdoor play, campfires & s’mores at our bayside fire pits, orienteering, Israel Scouting & camp crafts, and more.
Performing & Visual Arts
Campers get to explore a wide range of visual and performing arts. In addition to traditional camp arts and crafts, like tie-dying and making friendship bracelets, campers can elect to participate in activities like drama, dance, music, guitar and songleading, painting, singing, and more. All campers also perform their session songs to the entire camp every Saturday night.
We have around 15 Israeli specialists and counselors each year who lead special Israel-themed cabin activities and other fun programs, live in cabin, and bring a taste of Israel to Camp Newman. Guided by these outstanding Israeli staff, campers get to celebrate and explore the traditions, culture, and geography of Israel.
Jewish prayers and traditions are interwoven into our daily schedule through blessings, closing circles, recognizing Jewish teachable moments, and creative t’fillah sessions, and magical Shabbat celebrations. All of our t’fillah (prayer services) are interactive, child-centric, and either led by our campers or by our visiting URJ rabbis, cantors and educational faculty. A nightly highlight is when campers gather with their session to sing siyum, a comforting closing prayer that brings us altogether to reflect on our day and wish each other sweet dreams before we go to sleep each night.
We surprise the campers with top secret experiences—different every session! We’d say more, but we don’t want to give anything away!
