Art, as we all know, can be a powerful means of expression, and a way to highlight the unspoken. Nowhere is this more evident in how our campers recently used illustration to convey their thoughts and feelings about prayer. Cantor Amanda Edmondson (of Temple Emanu-El of San Jose) led an evening t’fillah where she gave our rising fifth and sixth grade Nitzanim campers prompts for six different prayers (for more on these prayers, click here):

  1. Maariv Aravim (light into darkness, darkness into light)
  2. Ahavat Shalom (how we show our love for God and how God shows love for us)
  3. V’ahavtah (following the commandments)
  4. Mi Chamocha (freedom)
  5. Avot v’Imahot (our mothers and fathers)
  6. Oseh Shalom (peace for Israel and our entire world)
