CampChat: What are you excited about for Shabbat?

In just a few hours, something magical is going to happen at camp. Campers, counselors and staff will dress up in their best whites and gather together – many campers for the first time – for our very first Shabbat.

Shabbat is one of the most important times at camp. It’s one of the only times of the week when we join as one Kehilah Kedosha, a sacred community, to sing, pray, dine, dance – and to celebrate all the amazing experiences we shared this week. It’s truly a special time.

But don’t take our word for it. See what the kids are looking forward to the most!

What are you excited about for Shabbat?

  • Jacob & Matt: "The prayers (Hashkiveinu) where they cover us with the tallis (prayer shawl) and bless us"

  • Jacob: "Being able to connect to God"

  • Michael: "The Shabbat service"

  • Counselor Adam: "I'm excited to see all my campers in their Shabbat whites - and to dance the night away!"

  • Adam: "The food - it's the best on Shabbat!"

  • Aldo: "Hanging out with my friends"

  • Alex: "The Dancing!" Adam: "Definitely, the food" Gia: "The brownies!"

  • Counselor Ben: "I'm excited to make Camp Newman proud in the Frisbee game just before Shabbat."

  • Chip: "I'm excited to spend the day getting to know our Avodah song for Session Songs on Saturday night."

  • Cody: "Singing the Sh'ma prayer at services."

  • Elana: "Dancing, the brownies & sleeping in!" Maya: "Dancing to the song Cotton Eyed Joe tonight!"

  • Evan: The Frisbee Game before services!"

  • Gabe: "I can't wait to experience a Camp Shabbat for the first time."
