Staying Connected

Welcome to our Staying Connected to FUN resource page, one-stop-shop for all the fun, campy activities available to your family. We’ll be updating this page a few times a week with virtual gatherings, song-sessions, resources for “off screen” activities, and ways for you to stay to connected to our Camp Newman family.

Here at Camp Newman, we work together in a community of acceptance, role modeling positive behaviors, where each and every member of the community is vital and important.  We call this our “CARE Philosophy.”

  • C: Community
  • A: Acceptance
  • R: Role-Modeling
  • E: Each and everyone

Our mission is to extend the CARE Philosophy to our everyday lives – whether at camp or at home. So, we’re thrilled to partner with BJE: Builders of Jewish Education in Los Angeles to promote a week of kindness! Join us for the #NewmanCAREs and #BJEBuildingKindness Challenge, a social media campaign dedicated to inspiring our personal networks to promote acts of loving kindness (Gimilut Chasadim), which ultimately help to ‘rebuild’ the world.

This challenge is about empowering children and teens to be the change they wish to see in the world.

How it works:

  1. Check Camp Newman Facebook or Instagram every morning at 9am for the Daily Kindness Challenge.
  2. Snap a photo(s) of you, your teen/child, or the whole family in the process of doing the action and the final results
  3. Post to Facebook/Instagram and include the following:
    •  Cute Caption (1 sentence or a few words) explaining the act of kindness – FYI on the photo scavenger hunt document, there is a list of Jewish Values associated with certain actions. Feel free to use those in your caption.
    • Nomination: “I nominate {tag 5 people here} to take on the #NewmanCAREs and #BJEBuildingKindness Challenge to help make the world a better place!
    • Use the hashtags #NewmanCAREs and #BJEBuildingKindness
  4. Check out the Kindness Bingo Board and the Kindness Challenge Photo Scavenger Hunt
  5. Have fun! Be Kind!

Avodah, our special program for rising 11th grade, spends significant time every summer fundraising for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation as part of their effort to give back to our greater community. One of our treasured staff events, Avodauction, is going virtual this year and EVERYONE in our camp community is welcome to join. We invite you to support our amazing class of 2020 as they host a silent and live auction and win some fun camp prizes!
