Come celebrate our return to Porter Creek with a Welcome Home Weekend & Sunday Open House for the whole family and your camp friends!  Spend a weekend, or just the day, enjoying our beautiful campus with the people who make camp so special: YOU! Registration is now open.

Come for the Weekend – Welcome Home Shabbaton

Friday, October 14th, 2022 – Sunday, October 16th, 2022

Spend a magical Shabbat with us including Friday night Shabbat Shira and Israeli dancing, Sukkot celebration, and all your favorite camp activities!

Private (up to 4 beds & private bathroom) and shared accommodations (8-16 beds & dedicated, shared bathrooms) available.

All accommodations include: A 3-day, 2-night stay at Camp Newman with six meals, as well as snacks, Shabbaton and Open House activities, and childcare.

Weekend Shabbaton Schedule

Friday, October 14th

5:00 – 6:00 pm: Heiveinu Shalom Alechem!

We are so glad to see YOU! Get checked in and our stall will help you find your cabin/room, introduce you to your bunkmates, run-jump-hug your friends you haven’t seen in SO LONG and then get ready in your Shabbat Whites!

6:30 pm: Shabbat dinner + Shira & Israeli Dancing

Come hungry and then get ready to sing and dance the night away with classic Israeli folk dances and camp-favorite line dances!

8:30 pm: Shabbat Oneg and Alumni Class Receptions (Shmira staff go on duty)

Enjoy wine, desserts and classic camp oneg fare! Alumni will have the opportunity to gather by class as well as mix and mingle with other participants.

Our staff will be stationed at each cabin/living space where kids are living. After parents have put kids to bed, staff will be available should anything come up in the evening so that adults can enjoy time together!

11:30 pm: Shmira staff go off duty

Our staff will remain on duty until a parent from each family returns. Please plan to relieve your staff member by 11:30pm!

Saturday, October 15th

Anytime: Chofesh & Open Play

There will always be an area set up with sports equipment and lawn games for some more structured self-lead downtime.

7:00 am: Sunrise Star hike

Join our staff for the iconic Hike to the Star and warm up your vocal cords for a morning “I LOVE BEING JEWISH!”

8:00 am: Breakfast

9:00 am – 12:30 pm: Taste of Camp Activities for kids

Activities led by our amazing summer staff members for kids ages 2+ and older! We will not be offering childcare for children under 2 years old.

10:30 am: Shabb-Options for Adults

Adults and older teens can choose their own adventure for Shabbat morning. From a text study to a hike, paper midrash with artists Isaac and Rabbi Shawna Brynjegard-Bialik, challah braiding, Israeli dancing or a classic camp-style service. Each session is 75 minutes long and all except the morning Shabbat service will be offered twice during this time block.

12:30 pm: Lunch

1:30 pm: Menucha (Rest time)

2:30 – 3:30 pm: Chugim (Elective) Block 1

Join one or more activities during this time block from an art project to ultimate frisbee to Sukkot activities – options for adults only and the entire family together!

3:30 – 4:00 pm: It’s-It Time

Nosh on a camp favorite and bay area delicacy: It’s-It ice cream sandwiches!

4:00 – 5:30 pm: Chugim (Elective) Block 2

Join one or more activities during this time block including climbing at Adventure Mountain, hearing about camp’s 10 year plan, family activity and art projects – options for adults only and the entire family together!

5:30 pm: Seudat Shlishit and Kid’s Fun

Adults can join for a wine and cheese appetizer while kids ages 2+ are led in more camp fun by our staff!

6:30 pm: Dinner

7:30 pm: Havdalah

Together as a community we’ll hold on to the last moments of Shabbat together and wish each other a good and sweet week ahead with this beautiful, musical camp-style Havdalah service.

8:00 pm: Game Night

Create a team with your old (or new) family friends or CIT classmates and have friendly competition!

8:30 pm: Shmira begins

Our staff will be stationed at each cabin/living space where kids are living. After parents have put kids to bed, staff will be available should anything come up in the evening so that adults can enjoy time together!

9:00 pm: Campfire, Kumsitz (song session), and S’mores bar

A beloved camp tradition: singing around the campfire PLUS s’mores, of course!

11:30 pm: Shmira ends

Our staff will remain on duty until a parent from each family returns. Please plan to relieve your staff member by 11:30 pm!

Sunday, October 16th

Anytime: Chofesh & Open Play

There will always be an area set up with sports equipment and lawn games for some more structured self-lead down time.

8:00 am: Breakfast

9:00 am: Packing time and Closing Activity

Conclude a rejuvenating, fun-filled weekend together with a meaningful closing activity for all participants!

10:00 am: Open House begins

Shabbaton Accommodations

Shared Accommodations

Experience camp-life for the weekend in our shared cabins! Our gorgeous cabins are brand new – with air conditioning, comfortable bunk beds and fully outfitted bathrooms perfect for unleashing your inner camper. Shared cabins are ideal for families (and family friends!) with camp-aged kids – or alumni who want to hang out with their camp friends day and night.  Half cabins sleep 8 and full cabins sleep 16. Best part for parents? Our amazing staff will take care of your weekend campers – during the day and at night!

Private Accommodations

Choose our private housing option (either in the wellness lodge or our motel)! Away from the hustle and bustle of main camp, our private accommodations are ideal for families with younger-than-camp-age kids and alumni without children. Spend your days doing your favorite camp activities and your nights relaxing in the cool mountain air. Our private housing options come with up to 4 comfortable beds and a full private bathroom.

Fee: $465/participants ages 2+

Come for the Day – Sunday Open House

Sunday, October 16th, 2022: 10 am – 3:30 pm

Come to camp for the day and help us celebrate our return to Porter Creek and our amazing new spaces. Enjoy a beautiful hike, tie-dye and other art projects, climb the 50-foot alpine tower, and so much more!

Includes: Lunch and all Open House activities.

Fee: $36/person

 

Cancellation Policy
Cancel up to 3 weeks before the event – 90% refund of fees paid

Cancel up to 2 weeks before the event – 75% refund of fees paid

Cancel up to 1 week before the event – 50% refund of fees paid

Cancel less than 1 week before the event – no refunds
